Students will choose a book that fits this category and integrate its ideas into their curriculum, using their own ideas and those of the children, in an emergent way. Students will be required to show 2 weeks’ worth of planning showing how they will integrate their science activities into other areas of the curriculum (P.O. 3, 5). One science activity designed by the students will be required to be presented to the group with an explanation of what the children are learning and why (P.O.5). Planning homework, and presentation due on Oct. 29.
As a semester long activity, students will be required to set up and maintain a Science Center in their classrooms. Following class discussion on suitable possibilities and reading of Section 6 of our text book , “experiments” and exploratory activities must be offered on a weekly basis and be documented in a booklet, for use by the children. Parents can be involved in this process, collecting items for the center with their children (P.O.4). The booklet must be presented for the group to see at our final session on Dec. 3.
